Natimby Compost

Commander Robert Stuart pioneered regenerative farming as far back as 1929 while managing a teaestate in the Nilgiri Hills of India. After experiencing the devastating loss of topsoil in the monsoonrains, he established Bana grass along the contours on the steep slopes of the tea plantations. These“green contours” provided an effective channel to guide the runoff into protected waterways andmost importantly it provided a sustainable source of mulch to protect the soil, generate organicmatter and encourage soil microbes and other organisms to recolonise the soils.Fast forward nearly 100 years and three generations and Natimby is now home to a Compost SoilHealth Research and Innovation Site with a number of “first in the world” technologies relating tocompost making methods, high quality compost production, compost extract production, regenerative farming practices and compost heat exchangers. We currently operate, manage or consult to 7 large scale compost sites in the Western Cape,Kwazulu Natal, Gauteng and the Eastern cape.
